green policies are reducing the supply of oil, increasing the demand for "renewable" sources, processing plants are catching fire, and crop production is down. All of these things culminate in a shortage in ethanol, which increases gas prices because most gas is at least 10% ethanol in the US. The ethanol shortage also reduces production of acetic acid (vinegar) which means processes that rely on acetates are crippled, which means less/more expensive plastics (which is basically everything nowadays) Also acetic acid is being used as a replacement pesticide for glyphosate which increases the demand/prices and decreases the supply for commercial and industrial uses. Furthermore, the US is now in an El Nino weather system which will reduce the amount of corn grown, exacerbating the whole issue.
