I figured this out a while back... scarcity alone isn't enough to make a coin valuable unless it also has a secondary use case. And this is because BTC already fulfilled the true scarcity need for humanity and is considered the authentic archetype of scarcity now. Everything else that attempts to be similarly scarce is inauthentic by default, and this is why all of the bitcoin forks haven't succeeded.

If we implement your idea with some sort of secondary token use it could work.
