You've got to be (1) contrarian as hell, (2) shoot from the hip with absolute confidence, and (3) not be afraid to be wrong and let go of positions and take a loss.

Those last two things are hard to find in one person. Confident people tend to cling to their beliefs and hold, then get raped to death by decay. People willing to be wrong tend to suffer from analysis paralysis and end up buying the top and selling the bottom.
