geology in Canada and the US is about 60/40 favoring women now, its even advertised to women in universities here. What has happened though with modern vs the last generation of geology recruits is the way they think. The newer geos dont want to go out as much and actually locate or verify outcrops for example. They prefer lab work instead. Their also trained with little proper field experience, camp life is often quite traumatic to many of the fresh out of university types. Its not all like this, but its becoming the norm for sure. Quite a few of my geologist friends make fun about it.
