This may sound a bit pathetic, but do any other LINKies feel a bit lost? I have become so used to shitposting on /biz/ about the sleeping /our/coin that it has become my daily ritual.

When you're talking about the intrinsic, non-speculative value of LINK tokens it really comes down to two things. The first is the utility function, with payments to node operators being denominated in LINK. The second is the fact that contract collateral must be denominated in LINK. In a world with zero speculators, the growth in the value of the LINK token would be driven by these two factors alone.
The first one, utility in the form of payments to node operators being denominated in LINK, is arguably the less significant of the two. High network usage will require a high volume of payments to be paid in the form of LINK, driving token value. This could also drive entities who use the Chainlink network to accumulate tokens in anticipation of them being able to do a greater amount of work further down the line.
The second value driver exists due to the competitive advantage conferred upon a node operator who has more collateral to stake, and therefore greater capacity to take a higher volume of higher value jobs.
In this way, the LINK token acts as a sort of proxy or representation of the level and value of node operator competition. More nodes competing for more jobs provides a constant competitive driver for nodes to accumulate more and more collateral in order for them to run more and more jobs. The fact that the collateral must be denominated in the LINK token means that there will be a constant buying pressure as node operators jostle for greater market share. This second feature alone could see individual LINK tokens becomes extremely valuable, as more and more of the circulating supply is tied up in nodes who need as much LINK as possible to show their collateral capacity. Traditional views of "market cap" may become apparently nonsensical in an environment where only a very small proportion of the total circulating supply is actually being traded, and competition for the remaining tokens is fierce.
