Yeah, mostly it's just getting into the habit of posting new listings. I think I'm down to like 5-6 posts of shit that's under $5. I haven't played since War of the Spark so all my shit is older, hence why my biggest seller is the rare repacks. I'm happier to sell stuff at a lower price than to sit on it forever. I have a handful of sealed that I'm not selling for another 5-10 years at least. Probably need to buy out some more collections and liquidate them.
Man, I bought like 10 copies of Indomitable Creativity for like $1.25 each expecting them to go up, and pieced them out around $8. Wew lad.

Yes, if: You are willing to hold for 15-20 years.
Old sealed products are the way to go, not modern cards, since you can go from sealed=>cards, but not the other way around.
Also, every pokemon booster box has doubled in value eventually

Its like selling options: you sell the shitty singles before they tank in value, then sit on things that will actually compound in value

I'm sitting on these for the next 5-10 years, and hopefully Hasbro doesn't shit the bed too hard. Now is great time to accumulate reserve list cards while confidence is at an all-time low. I just wouldn't go crazy here.

Also I took advantage of a $100 rebate to buy a Switch (plus 10% discount, plus either 1.5% or 6% cashback, it wasn't clear on the amount), all in all I should be ahead by about $150-$200 if I sell it at market value.

TCG gang ww@

The game is easily pirateable, I'd say old games like that only hold value if they're complete and in good condition, ideally sealed in box.
For example, old games like Dokapon Kingdom are worth like $40 now, I got some at FUCKING GAMESTOP for $2 like a decade ago

I have 50k net worth and about 7% allocation to TCGs as an alternative investment. Mostly it's in MTG sealed and a few reserve list cards (about $4500 / $1400 respectively)
I suggest having some exposure to collectables/toys (not Funko pops, lmao) as a long term diversification thing. I've held these for about 2-3 years and expect to hold for another 10, minimum. Right now everyone is kvetching about depressions, recessions, end of days, market crashes, this is the time to accumulate in position in something, anything (not just stonks). When there's a big downturn, this is when you want to put your pieces on the board.

Having said that, please do understand what you're buying, and have a passion and interest in the game/product. Make sure it is investable, not just a collectable. The market has huge bid/ask spreads, low volume, and is not liquid. If I got into trouble and had to liquidate my collection tomorrow, I'd probably eat a 20-30% haircut off market value

You want a mix of different asset classes that appreciate and react to market events at different rates and liquidity levels. That way its an accumulation of wealth over time with less risk.

Not yet, but I might grab a few synth futures to play their ER following Dominaria Legends' release - it works out wonderfully for timing too. Sept 9th is the release date, the shemitah ends near the end of the month, and earnings would be on October, though it'll probably be the one after that.

Finally some sensible advice. How much do you have? I have ~25 sealed with $4k and another $1200 in RL singles.

To make it actually on topic to the thread: now that a recession seems inevitable and all asset classes are down, how has the current macro situation affected cash inflows and outflows to this alternate asset class?
Eg, have the prices of old boxes gone down significantly? Is the 2020 era and newer stuff a write off? How are RL prices holding up?

Any side hustles?
For me, I bought out a collection of MTG cards for $250 like 2 years ago and have made about $1400 or more piecing out the singles over time on ebay.
Pic related, it's the sealed boxes I bought after flipping shit (about $4000 value last I checked)
