Yes the 'asteroid mining will make precious metals worthless' argument assumes that the future for humanity is bright and that we should trust our benevolent, enlightened governments because they have the will and the means to exploit the solar system for resources.

We haven't landed a man on the moon for 48 years, I don't exactly see us not only landing men on astroids, but also setting up the infrastructure of creating a mining base on a moving asteroid.

If I am wrong I won't be sad because a world where humanity is colonizing the stars is worth more to me then my silver mooning due to the collapse of fiat currency.
