Let's be honest, the market was getting filled with people who had no idea what cryptos are about or pure speculative money with no trust in their investment.

Any attempt to normalize, to calm institutional investors, to make bitcoin more accessible, to regulate the market will lead to bubbles. We need crashes, we need blood, because only then the true value of cryptos can be seen.

This crash is healthy for the crypto market in general, I'm sorry for those who bought in recently and are genuinely interested, but we needed this or the crash would have been bigger.

No shit. My dad phoned me yesterday asking about it. I have been trading crypto for two years and have spoken to him about it before but he has always brushed it off as "pretend trading" until now.

I feel like shit right now though because all my money is in alts and I've lost earnings over the last few days. I'm too scared to buy BTC now as it seems far too high. The whole thing is making me nervous.

Verizon VZ historically pays 4% dividend but it's expected to go up. Let's say you buy 600K in VZ stock, now you make 24K per year forever or until Verizon doesn't exist anymore. You just doubled your income

I was reading a book a few weeks ago that talks about all the people who lost their retirement savings by putting their cash into non-guaranteed investments when the crash of 2008 happened.

Another book I read argued what >>1206108 is saying, that you'll experience ups and downs with index funds but you'll get the benefit of the average.

Honestly, it comes down to what level of risk you're comfortable with. There are agency-guaranteed investments like bank GICs (might be different in your country, I'm a Canadafag) where you have 0 risk but the growth is pretty much only enough to protect your cash from inflation. Of course, you could theoretically lose your money in an apocalyptic event, but at that point I think you have more to worry about than just your money.

I'm yet to be in a position to start investing, but you should at least be putting your unused money into TFSA/401k and guaranteed RRSPs. From there, you can decide if you want to allocate a certain percentage of your money into low, medium, and high risk investments.
