>what the actual fuck is wrong with programmers, how come so many of them troon out?
I'm gonna say it. Programming isn't healthy.
Literally any activity where you think A LOT makes you crazy.
Boby fisher went crazy. Musical composers go crazy. Artists go crazy.
It's a price you pay for advancing the field forward.

uh, I love terry but let's not pretend he wasn't a mentally ill person rejected by society who ultimately contributed very little compared to his potential if his condition was treated.
yeah, sounds like a super based future anon you should follow in his footsteps!
>Can you sum up some of the most egregious things he's done to earn the "anti-social faggot" title?
enforcing petty code licenses in a cypherpunk project is about the most cucked faggot thing you can do
>seriously though, rip terry.

the absolute majority of gold purchases are not made with the goal of becoming wealthy or even turning a profit
gold purchases are made mainly to store wealth for a very long period of time; old age, illness, disaster, etc.
>gold = real savings

Bitcoin is purchased mainly for the purpose of becoming filthy rich in a very short period of time,
Bitcoin is not purchased to store wealth for old age, illness or disaster, the psychology of Bitcoin owners is extremely brittle and for good reason
>Bitcoin = speculation

the reason the psychology of Bitcoin holders is so brittle is very simple, real savings vehicles need to have intrinsic value

what is intrinsic value?
>intrinsic = belonging naturally to something
>value = things which humans need and desire
a bottle of Coke has intrinsic value because humans like to drink Coke and even if they don't like it they will drink it to survive if they have to
Coke's ability to be drunk, i.e. the value of a bottle of Coke, resides in the very nature of the bottle of Coke

so why not save in bottles of Coke? well there are many reasons but the most important is that Cokes intrinsic value can be destroyed, rendering that Coke worthless through physical destruction

gold has intrinsic value because humans like gold and even if they don't like it they will use it for industrial purposes
golds ability to attract humans and be used for industrial applications, i.e. the value of gold, resides in the very nature of gold and can never be taken away from it, destruction is nearly impossible

Bitcoin has no intrinsic value because its only allure, it's transactability and hardness are not intrinsic to it
a bitcoin requires a large network with advanced infrastructure, i.e. miners, to be able to retain it's alluring qualities, without the miners, or without a safe network (51% attack), Bitcoin is worthless
it's value can only be derived from constant work input and is thus worse than even a bottle of Coke

back when we had no fiat we used to price gold in silver and silver in gold
now people price gold and silver in dollars - so the relationship is completely broken
the reason gold goes higher than silver is because gold is still seen as money by many central banks
silver is not seen as money because silver is not the money of central banks - it is the money of day-to-day transactions, which are made by day-today-day people - who are very stupid
once the day-to-day people wake up and realise that they can either buy silver for $200oz or gold for $10 000oz (which they can't afford) silver will go to $600-$700
