I think it shows a bit of a fundamental misunderstanding of societies and their constituent structures. If you view Pax Americana through the lens of it being an empire then yes theoretically there could be a couple hundred more years and indeed the USA does have the capacity to extend its reign.

However, a republic can not be a proper empire because a republic is nothing more than a buffet line serving it's citizens. It's the apocryphal democracy that votes itself shares of its own treasury... Until the treasury ran low, then for a long long time after that through ever increasingly abstract financial tools allowing non-real moneys to take the place of real value and creation.

As Hobbes was poorly trying to demonstrate in Leviathan we can't really have a social contract with ourselves ourselves through the construct of 'government' because it doesn't create the necessary incentive structures to ensure long-term prosperity. There needs to be a literal personification in the state, most obviously the Sovereign, who has the necessary long term investment in the success of the state that goes beyond the immediate material needs of the citizen class. If your grandchild is going to be the ruler, all of your decisions and all of your priorities are to create the strongest possible society with the best quality of life, with a happy and satisfied population. If you leave everything to citizens all questions of civic duty will ultimately be subverted by the creation of constructs that allow us to mortgage our future. Give us a little today and we'll pay back a lot tomorrow - and also lie to use about it so it sounds good. Grains of sand do create a pile and so of course one day there will be nothing left for the society. No jobs, empty grocers, and broken roads.

In short order when the American 'Empire' ends we will relearn what we knew for hundreds of years before enlightenment social-theory positivism, a nation is more than a geographical region
