First thing first, you must understand the underlying philosphy, ideology and metaphysics of PMs.
The mandatory watch is Hidden secrets of Money by Maloney :

Once it's done, you can consider your best options. Since you are in the US you basically have access to the cheapest PMs in the world while having the easiest money in the world. On top of having no VAT on metals. Amerimutts don't understand how insanely lucky they are compared to anybody else on the planet. At least when it comes to stacking.

With $15K personally i'd go 10k silver 5k gold. For silver, a split of 5k in 1kg bars + 4k in the cheapest coins availible (coins = issued by gubments' mint with facial value making them legal tender, while rounds = privately issued with no facial value), which ATM will most likely be Austrian's Philharmonic Weiners, Australian's Kangaroos or Armenian's Noah's Arks. And finally 1K in rounds.

About the 5K in gold, it's enough to purchase 2x 1oz coins (Britannias and Weiners have a low premium rn, lower than old gold even) + 2 sovereign coins (old gold minted en masse in Europe from the 1800- early 1900s, weighting 5.80gr of fine gold). French ones are the most popular and cheapest usually (20F or were minted in the billion range, back when France was still a relevant country).
