OK, stop there. Utilities stocks (benchmarked against something like XLU) behave differently from "energy" (oil, speculative green tech) stocks (benchmarked against, say, XLE and ICLN respectively).

It helps to think where they each make money. An oil or solar company can make tonsa money when the shit they sell is in demand. But a utility is more or less a middleman, steadily passing along costs.
