The logic is somewhat backwards. Companies solicit governments for what amounts to endorsements - validation through being currency, which in many countries also allows them to avoid certain taxes. For example the Bavarian State Mint solicited some African nations for their Elephant series in 1995, settling on Zambia. Zambia got some royalties, BSM coins were taxed less. In 2004 BSM negotiated with Somalia, and now we have Somali coins. Germania Mint has made coins for Malta (pic related) and Niue.
