I would say you want enough gold that you can comfortable move on your person on foot and enough silver that you could reasonably move with a ute.

Once you have a good stack that will protect you in times of crisis you should definitely invest in productive, lucrative investments and speculations.

Of course if shit goes to hell you will want a million ounces of silver in a vault under your fortified estate and enough armed trust worthy men to protect you and your community.

I suspect many intelligent stackers may one day be warlords in the event that the USA has another civil war. A civil war in the modern united states would last for decades, it won't be fought in fields by organized armies rather it would be like the Syrian civil war only 1000x worst with russians and chinese and europeans and japs supplying arms and supplies for different factions.
