The idea of buying silver now instead of gold is that you don't care what the actual $ values are, just the ratio of the prices to each other. No matter what the prices are today, if I bought 100 oz of silver at a silver to gold ratio of 96:1, I'm holding until that ratio is sufficiently narrowed down, say to 60:1. If it goes up instead, I just wait. Once it hits 60:1, even if the actual dollar values are wildly different than they are now, I can still sell off my silver and use that money to buy more gold than I would have been able to had I sold the silver at a ratio of 96:1.

Silver has always been cheaper than gold in history, but not THIS much cheaper. The US constitution had an enforced ratio of like 15.5:1. Its insane that you can buy either 96oz of silver or one of gold right now. Money spent on silver is still safe in the sense that its not like its going to go to zero like some shitty pennystock. But its making a bet that you're moving out of the metal down the road into gold, which is what everyone wants.

You can go all gold, sure. But putting some into silver is pretty a low risk investment for a sensible chance of 'upgrading' in the future.
