I have an idea for a side hustle, it's unique enough that I might be pretty successful.

Background:
I like radioactive things and am well read on the science. I collect radioactives as a hobby, and have over the years accumulated a good amount of equipment.

Premise:
Put in an evening of DIY and set up my equipment in some professional looking boxes.

Drive to some wealthy communities built on the Canadian Shield.

*Knock on door*
“Hello sir/Maam, have you had your home tested for radon? The earth your house is built on is liable to emit high levels of radioactive gas. It's one of the leading causes of lung cancer, second only to cigarettes”

Radon is everywhere here, most of the houses I target will be full of the stuff. It's pretty much harmless, but the governments of the world make a big fuss over it. If they google it, they’ll be scared to death. I’ll offer to test their home for $100 or so, it would only take me about 45 minutes to an hour to get a reasonable baseline.

Impress them with fancy science equipment, Geiger tubes, Ion chambers, scintillators, go complete overkill for show. Even if the radon levels are low, all I'd have to do is look down their sump-well to find radon levels orders of magnitude above the safe limit (according to official sources).

I can even offer dosimetry calculations for the household. This would make me look more trustworthy, and because radioactive decay is expressed on the atomic scale, I can scare them with big numbers and scientific notation.

At the end of it all, I'll cut out a piece of foam board to place over their sump, and point them in the direction of other companies who install ventilation systems.

It's not even a scam because my numbers would be accurate and the bit of work I do at the end would reduce overall levels. Many businesses use fear to their advantage. Why shouldn't I?

Get paid and leave, I could easily make this worthwhile, though I'm not sure how much I should charge. Any thoughts anons?
