History shows that your statement is false. Most of the world outside of Europe - including all of Asia and the Americas - was was either bimetallic or on a silver standard for hundreds of years. Picrel is a silver trade dollar minted in Japan to compete internationally with Chinese, American, and Mexican silver coinage. Although gold was valuable all over the world, silver was the global money before gold.
