I also keep seeing, posts for skycoin, are they a copy of holo? but they also seem to have an antenna.

>skycoin is advertised as free and better than ISPs, so can I stop paying my ISP now
Not yet - you need to wait for the antennas. Eventually you'll be able to bypass your ISP and route over the meshnet via wireless/radio/satellite/darkfiber. Skywire is one of the longer-term Skycoin projects... it's not going to just suddenly appear overnight. The network needs to be built out gradually.

SKYMINERS

Skyminers are custom-built hardware VPN units that provide the computing power, networking capability, and storage capacity necessary for the Skywire
network’s infrastructure backbone.

The Skycoin ecosystem is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their means or technical knowledge. Skyminers are a major driver of that accessibility. Their low-cost hardware and energy efficiency make them relatively cheap to buy and run. A “plug and play” functionality is currently in the works so that nontechnical users can easily deploy their own nodes.

In keeping with the Skycoin Project’s open-source roots, full Skyminer part lists and assembly guides will be available to anyone who would like to build their own.

The Skycoin team is already ramping up production of Skyminers. Post mainnet, Skycoin plans to have 1 factory producing 1,000 units per week with plans to scale up to 2 factories producing 10,000 units per week by Q1 of 2019.

There are two main areas of R&D for Skyminers. First is the antenna hardware. The team is developing two main antenna variants:

1. A short-range (up to 5km with clear Line-of-Sight) antenna for point-to-point access in urban areas
2. A long-range (up to 15km) antenna to connect sparsely populated communities

It will be free to use for most people running a node. Basically you get paid in skyhours for routing traffic through your node or hosting storage/computing power on your node, and you pay skyhours when you use bandwidth/storage/computing on the network. You also pay skyhours to access the dapps and games that run on the platform. There are 30+ ICOs already planning to launch. Each ICO gets its own blockchain and wallet and currency.

SKY is a complete blockchain ecosystem with skyhours as the currency. Also by holding Skycoins in your wallet you generate 1 skyhour per Skycoin per hour, so everybody will hodl the Skycoins and just spend the skyhours.

The antennas are in development, no specs yet but the devs say they will operate over a range of bandwidths and distances, with traditional ISP as a fallback if needed. The nodes don't care whether they're connected to an ISP or a satellite line or a wireless link - it's a mesh network and they just route over the best path to the destination.

>if you decide to look up something nefarious using my connection and i will go to prison for running a sky node
Anything forwarded through your SKY node is encrypted. You don't know what your transmitting, and the authorities can't find out what your transmitting. Everything on Skywire is encrypted and only known to the sender and receiver. Intermediate nodes just forward the encrypted packets without any ability to find out what data they contain.

Wireless, radio, satellite. The nodes will span the globe. No fiber needed - SKY will completely bypass existing ISPs eventually.
