Theoretically, this allows Chainlink to become a blockchain of blockchains without being a blockchain. In its purest sense, Chainlink nodes are currently also validators/nodes on the underlying network that they operate on. However because Chainlink nodes are all running the same software, those nodes can also communicate amongst themselves. But stepping back, becoming a validator/node on a blockchain can be quite expensive. If you want to decentralize the oracle network, basically you either A. Must begin running a validator on blockchain X or B. be able to create Chainlink nodes that aren’t running on any blockchain but can still participate in consensus. My thought is that, because Chainlink nodes are also nodes on enough blockchains you can create a rule set now that all Chainlink nodes must abide by without jeopardizing the protocol. This might mean, you can spin up a Chainlink node add your stake and basically risk your future fee opportunity until v1 comes out at which point any mistakes mean you get slashed. I don’t know how true this is nor is this any form of advice. But I do know that Chainlink nodes MUST be bidirectional, aka, they must also be Nodes/validators on some blockchain.

Fast lanes can only happen at the protocol layer. Guess what. Picrel. Enjoy.

Just go read the whitepaper. It’s a bit of reading but it’s clear.
