there isn't enough options volume for them to be hedged.

All of the doubling down of this week failed as of today's heroic struggle over $10. The only hope for shorts at this point is a something causing a massive panic sell-off. Which explains you I guess

I answered this question before
there aren't enough calls out there to cover all of the short interest

Shit like this literally only happens to companies that are going bankrupt TODAY (Bear Sterns, Lehman Brothers during the '08 crash)
GME has an activist investor with a solid track record and a console refresh coming up (there are long ass lines out infront of gamestops right now)

this is gonna be a movie

No

unironically the only way shorts can unwind themselves now is through fraud. Or a massive corona lockdown 2.0 retail dip

short answer: not enough, most shorts are unhedged

I stand by my statement, no matter how this ends we're gonna be in a movie

the only precedent for this is banks actively going bankrupt during the 2008 crash. Gamestop is not going bankrupt anytime soon
