I guess I see your point from a national security perspective, but I think the current administration is too cozy with China for it to be a big issue in the next few years. I agree with getting exposure to those other metals, some are even among the battery metals I recommended. While you’re right that TSLA demand will be nothing, if we have a mass rollout of solar and wind on a utility scale it will also require utility scale battery solutions. I doubt they will be done with lithium-ion batteries though.
My mining portfolio is about 75% silver and gold with 25% in a wide range of other commodities.

It's misleading to imply Venezuela is an example of what could realistically happen here. It's a totalitarian nightmare that never ends, whereas in most cases of hyperinflation people quickly found alternative currencies and escaped inflation, or eventually stopped the printing press. The Weimar Republic "only" took a year to issue a new currency and end it's crisis. I find historical wages a better measure, medieval workers earned 25-50 oz of silver a year, so for a median income of $50k that's $1-2k/oz, which is far more reasonable.
