Sounds like a solid plan. If you want to play it safe on the energy side, focus on the alpha quality names. But in case you're feeling braver, some of the high beta SMIDs are a decent speculation right now especially in the Canadian markets. For example BIR, they're barely breaking even at these natgas prices and funding their egregious dividend with their credit revolver right now (lmao), an absolutely unsustainable business if AECO stays below C$3. But if North American natgas prices go up a lot on the other hand... It's not a bad speculative position to take if you think NA natty is heading into a structural deficit what with all the LNG exports ramping up, or if you want to just play it shorter term while betting on a cold winter.
