That's very ageist of you, it's clearly what you've been asking for.

Sadly, he was burnt out from the 2019-early 2021 period which was really hard on everyone. After we launched and we didn't see the results that we wanted from the IEO, and the token went to $0.06 at the bottom, we had to do a lot as a company to survive. We laid off half the team and went remote in early 2020 right before COVID hit, and it was largely Stuart, Will, and a ghost crew (including myself) for a while keeping the network running. Then, I switched to consulting and did my Haskell Foundation project for a year until it was stable.

Doug was part of that crew, and he took the brunt of the stress, maintaining Chainweaver, trying to hunt down funding, taking on internal operations, and marketing strategy and so on. It was a huge job! Sadly, I think the combination of lack of funding and the desire to really see Kadena succeed resulted in his burnout by the time late 2021 rolled around, when I came back and the token went up to $2 and then higher. Now, we're totally funded for years, have a huge team building out great solutions and genuinely interesting collabs (of which you'll see many drop in the next 12 months btw - we've been working extremely hard over the past year so that this year could be the one we release).

Anyway, at that point, I think it was already too late for him. When I came back, he was barely around and kind of down alot, and eventually he announced his leaving. Everyone at Kadena thinks the best of Doug, and it's really unfortunate what happened. I hope he comes back at some point when he heals from his burnout. We left on good terms, so the ball is largely in his court if and when he feels like he wants to come back.
