I've been in Bitcoin for a long time. Newfags probably dont realize how quickly these shitcoin maximalists popped out of the woodworks. For 8 years Bitcoin was the center of attention, and altcoins were just cute little experiments that we traded to make more bitcoin. The Bitcoin community had a few scares like the Ghash and then BTC Guild hash wars, Mike Hearn's infamous "Bitcoin is dead" article, and the scaling drama. But it was seemingly business as usual.

Then all of a sudden it was like a cruise ship packed with retards landed on our island and started raping and pillaging our land. They took any speck of drama that was currently happening in the Bitcoin community and amplified it 100x, for the only purpose of advertising their new pump and dump shitcoin. We witnessed this on a small scale with the 2013/2014 shitcoins but this time was way different, the echochambers were amazingly effective at convincing people that these scams were actually serious projects. Vitalik coining the term "Bitcoin Maximalist" really added fuel to the fire too.

What you're seeing on places like r/cryptocurrency are remnants of this collective brainwashing that happened over the course of just a few months. This is why most oldfags push back on shitcoins so violently. We all saw how quickly the smear campaign unfolded. Any time a shitcoin is mentioned we can see past your elevator pitch bullet points. All we see is your raggedy, late adopter ass stumbling off a dilapidated cruise ship named "2017"
