Anon I've worked inside the corporate landscape for a decade, and "efficient" is the last thing I'd use to describe any of them.

The word you need to understand is "niche". You may not be able to easily beat Coca-Cola at making corn syrup slop for the masses, but if you sell a better quality product to the right demographic they will buy you over Coca-Cola, and Coca-Cola will never pivot quickly enough to take you out. You don't want to try to be P&G, Coca-Cola, Exxon, anyway. Carve out a niche and go after it. Let the market tell you if your niche is valuable or you're making a product for nobody.
