>This would defacto turn XRP into a "world currency" and I can't see the US government just bending over
This has to happen at one point or another. Our debt is unreasonable and unpayable, and inflation can only be mitigated for so long. The question is do we wait for everything to come crashing down, or do we set up a new system while the world economy is still mostly functional. Setting up the system early ensures that you have a strong standing from within it.

>needs to pay transaction fees because they get stuck with a currency they don't want: XRP instead of Zimbabwan dollars or whatever they're looking for.
Fees will be almost insignificant compared to SWIFT transfers. Additionally, everyone is already stuck with huge reserves of various other currencies that they don't want. By the nature of our current exchange you need to need a bunch of cash on hand in a plethora of different currencies. There's a few trillion dollars worth of currencies that are currently bound like that. Simplifying all of that into one single coin solves a lot of headaches, and also means that the total reserve needed is lower. That's more money that could be out there working instead of sitting idle.

>is if X countries came together, agreed on a universal backing currency and split the governance between them.
There's evidence that that's the case, and they chose XRP. Billions of dollars have been dancing around on the ledger since Nov 20, they appear to be stress tests from institutions trying the service. Banks keep announcing partnerships with Ripple Labs. The biggest bags have been sucking up every XRP they can touch since the 20th. The schitzo general has a lot of good info hiding through out it, once you run it through an oldfag vintage filter. I suspect that there really are a few insiders there LARPing as schitzos.
