Selling CSPs I rarely roll, you can almost always get a better deal waiting to get assigned shares then selling a call so you don't have to buy anything back.
However it does make sense if you expect a big move up or down. You sell when the strike is ATM so the extrinsic is high, then a big move happens and the extrinsic is gone. You're effectively selling a calendar spread by rolling, so you could buy it back for a profit and undo the roll. Or let the new option expire and pocket the extra extrinsic.
So if it went up bigly, you got to keep one last credit on your short put. If it went down, at least I got one more credit before the strike is too far ITM to be able to get anything.
