Met some detector guys when panning twice. One was looking around at some river gravel, but only found some old-ish coins and various stuff (mostly nails…) which also occasionally show up in my pans and another was just talking to me, telling me he's detecting around old roman roads and he got some coins and a sword.
Wasn't there some anon round these threads a few months back, detecting at stormwater drains (sp?) that collect all the cities goodies? I think he mentioned jewelry (and guns). Oh, and probably syringes…
Actually, there's some chance to find some jewelry panning too.
Friend of mine was playing in a river with his kid and he lost his wedding ring, since the cold water shrank his skin, so it fell off. He searched for it and found it.
But seems like this isn't a rare occasion. When I was at this spot, some boomer couple chatted me up, and the guy was asking if I already had found some gold, because he lost his wedding ring a few kilometers upstream. So there's probably a notable number of jewelry in any given, accessible river.

I don't listen to any music when I'm /out/. No matter if it's hiking, biking or skiing. I just want to be /out/ and not do anything else. Also, with the latter two, I also deem it a safety risk. I just need all my senses when I'm on the move.
With prospecting, that of course is not really an issue, but still, I don't like it.
Plus, I wouldn't recocnize if there's other people. So far, most seem to take it positive, mostly some nice quick chats. Last time, some boomer couple was hiking by, and he jokingly asked me if I'd found his wedding ring he lost in that river years ago.
