Staking more/unstaking automatically harvest your BAO. So you don't have to waste extra gas on manually harvesting unless you really just want that 5% without touching your stake.

Keep in mind that you can pay lower than suggested fees for these kinds of transactions. You'll want to use suggested fees for things like trading because the transaction can fall through if you take too long. But with staking you can use a small amount of gas, and it may take a few hours for the transaction to go through, but your pending stake won't time out unless you decided to lower your fees down to a dumb amount like $0.10 or something.

I'm not rich but maybe I overestimate my wealth when I consider $50-$100 to not be a deterrent. I mean, it sucks having that fee and I'm 100% moving over to xDai pools when they're implemented, but I've been in crypto long enough that I have that mount of change laying around. It pays for itself, but I can understand the hesitation when fees are so high. The way I look at it, even if this fails I'd only lose out on fees and be maybe $100 poorer at most. I can make that back easily. but luckily for me, I've already made it back in less than a week so I can just keep riding this train and any suspicion I had on the project has disappeared.

If you don't want to buy BAO, see if any pools exist that use pairings already in your wallet.
