Lots of states have goldbacks as currency already, Utah especially.

Metals would become more mainstream if there was hyperinflation, crypto would as well as we see in Turkey where it's wildly popular. However you don't know which shitcoins may implode whereas gold and silver are sure things and pretty much always go up in value in crises.
