Charles hired a world class PR company. Most of the hype were artificial.
Otherwise I don't think the project is a scam. It's just a low quality project. They created a chain which is much slower than Ethereum and has much less functionality. It took 7 years now.

That should be 20 minutes download time.
You should only sync the last few blocks. You should be able to check everything else locally through hashes.
What if Cardano will be 1 terabyte? You just sync there for months?

In theory it's the best blockchain out there with the greatest long term plans.
In practice the team barely delivers anything and the delivered parts under perform in every metrics compared to what was promised.
I was a huge Cardano fan for years but I have had enough waiting. They continuously postpone everything and make huge events with infinite empty speeches. I made 50x with it what is nice but now I think this project don't go anywhere. Their smart contracts are a catastrophe.
