Workspace unwritten rules

So I made a little (khem khem) political statement in the office, something that I thought wasn't too crazy of a thing but later saw a public shaming (not mentioning my name) in the group chat with a little anti hate morale rant.
Now I feel like the atmosphere has become tense. With that person in particular. I can argue my point but don't wanna create further conflicts. Also some of the reactions from other people shocked me. Like I thought we were friendly but after some coworkers quit and the way they were treated + this new incident makes me feel like all the friendliness was just some corporate min-maxing control strategy.
