>No coins here, let's say they actually did ban Monero. How could they possibly enforce that?

They'd force Monero off the main exchanges but the advent of atomic swaps make delistings irrelevant.

>If you have basic opsec it seems to me like no one ever needs to know you have Monero. Perhaps the riskiest thing then becomes trying to cash out Monero for fiat and getting caught by a sting.

You wouldn't cash out directly, you'd atomically swap into BTC or LTC first and then cash out, nobody need ever know you hold XMR.

I take it you've never heard of atomic swaps? Even if UNIVERSALLY (unlikely) banned, acquiring and trading Monero will still be as easy as buying Bitcoin on Coinbase.

>All true but what if governments crack down on XMR (and ZEC, ZEN, XHV) ?

Monero is already in a semi-banned state and price keeps going up.

Also, if it should ever get banned UNIVERSALLY (unlikely) atomic swaps are literally just months away from going live so as long as BTC is available, XMR will be available.

>alot of ppl with dump XMR once it gets banned and delisted

Dumping an in-demand utility that suddenly became more scarce makes sense how?

In any case, with 3 different teams currently working on atomic swaps the threat of delisting rings hollow.

>Any thoughts on governments attempting to censor XMR due its association with illegal activities (DN markets)? For me its not an issue but perhaps it could discourage wider adoption of the coin, although I see privacy becoming one of the growing interests in technology in these coming years so lets see.

Atomic swaps render any kind of suppressive regulation futile. If anything, banning Monero would in effect be an admission of its efficacy and reliability, which would only draw more criminals to it.

>Fewer and fewer payment processors and exchanges even sell it. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets outright banned, or even a soft-ban/deplatforming (imagine if the US required cryptocurrency providers to only use public blockchain crypto, for example).

You're forgetting that atomic swaps are on the way and are going to make exchanges largely irrelevant. In fact, even if XMR doesn't get delisted, you'd still want to avoid buying Monero directly on exchanges, the less traces left the better.

And if it does get banned, demand + scarcity = higher prices. Win-win.

>What happens if my glorious socialist government decides to make buying/selling XMR illegal on Kraken? They already kicked it off of Coinbase.

Atomic swaps are coming later this year. You simply swap seamlessly in and out of BTC as necessary, there is nothing the government can do about it short of banning ALL crypto.

>its almost as if you are begging to get raped by the government

Atomic swaps = government can't do shit. As long as BTC/LTC/etc are around XMR is easily acquirable, they'd literally have to ban ALL the maincoins to hinder Monero trading.

When they successfully shut down bittorrent piracy worldwide is when its time to panic.

>Yes. She’s thinking about Monero, which will likely be outlawed in the US. However, this does nothing because crypto is borderless. Even if I can’t buy XMR on a US exchange, I can always use a wallet like Exodus to swap whatever I buy into Monero and then back out again. Crypto can’t be stopped at this point.

BTC<->XMR atomic swaps are coming soon so the process will be even simpler, the golden age of reliable mixing will be upon us.

>I dont see how this being used by criminals makes it any more legitimate.

Criminals actually make great tech auditors because their freedom depends on getting it right.

So the fact that they're turning to Monero en masse speaks volumes about its efficacy and reliability.

>Normies dont care about that sort of shit

They care about this sort of shit when they're enjoying the safety and convenience of buying drugs on the online black market, a market that is expected to rapidly grow in coming years, for obvious reasons.

And Monero just so happens to be in the process of becoming the default and only means of payment on said market. Just think about that.....millions of normies around the world literally FORCED to buy and use Monero on a REGULAR basis in order to get their fix in the mail.....consistent demand driving up the price... makes me tingly just thinking about it!

>and if anything it being used in alot of illicit dealings will make govts that much more likely to crack down on it

Since atomic swaps are on the way, it ultimately won't matter. Cracking down and banning XMR wouldn't actually hinder access, it would only reinforce the perception of scarcity, further driving up the price.
