They made a mistake. Also on top of that, they want oil to go up because it hurts the consumer. They also hope talks go well with oil companies and Trump caves in. Outside of this market world, the average normie HATES oil companies, oil going up, etc. This war has been great news to average joe. If talks go well and Trump caves, he could very well lose the election if oil recovers because all normies will hate him for raising oil prices. It is in the media's best interest to hope things go smooth and push that narrative instead of shouting Trump is a liar because the net negative impact would be higher on Trump if things "work out."
