Here's a couple rules that have helped me, although if you think back to what you've done you can probably identify others or which mistakes in particular kept sinking you:

I work at a gas station right now and I can get away with a lot, because they need me. The job also turned out to have a lot more benefits than I expected. Extra pay for night hours, lots of extra hours if I want to. They regularly give me gift cards for the shop so I can buy, refuel for free. Food that's left at the end of the day gets thrown out (into my backpack for me to eat later) Tips amount to about € 200 a month, tax free money additional to my wage that got already raised once since I am such a good worker (read: I do the job properly). I make way more than I made at my last soul crushing office job and I have less responsibility and can fuck up way less, also 90% of the customer interactions range from nice to neutral, plus I don't sit around 8-10 hours.

The problem they have is that they can't find people competent enough, because people competent enough are able to find something better, so usually all they get is retards and full on retards that still think they are too good for that kind of job that quit within a few shifts if they show up at all. Also it doesn't help that our boss can be nervous retard at times, he's still an ok guy though, also from all the people working there he is 100% the rudest person towards the customers. It's always great when some entitled boomer customer is a cunt to him and he immediately demotes the customer from "king" to shit eating slave within two sentences, the expressions on their faces are always priceless. Overall I like it there especially since my commute is 2 minutes of walking and I save a lot of money each month, too bad it's becoming worthless right now. But hey, that's what now, only the third or so "once in a life time" economic crisis in 20 years. I am sure everything will work itself out.
