>1. Krugman comes to power
There is no way Social Security is sustainable without improved age demographics, let alone Medicare

401k auto-buys will always put some kind of floor under the market. not that it'll hold out under panic selling. but it's something.

>Big tech are the only companies that are going to lay off anyone for the most part
See this is what I thought before, but then big retailers started having layoffs. I think the 1%->5% hike is more significant than was initially evident, it's just taking a while to trickle through. Plus, those code monkeys & brand influencers might not have been creating real value BUT they were probably massive consoomers so taking their incomes out of the market en masse might have more of an impact than the numbers would suggest

>are they looking at different data or what?
They probably are. Even from the little bit I've followed a handful of bloggers/analysts, all of them have different fundamental ways of viewing the market which leads to different macro indicators they like to watch. There is just so much information that choosing the "important" stuff to follow is a non-trivial decision.

The real key to watch out for in "experts", though, is to make sure to ID when they have a conflict of interest. Like, youtubers - they may have some interesting insights, but what makes them money is that you are watching. Or, mainstream finance journalists - they want to keep their job, so they aren't going to stray too far from the herd in their predictions (hence so many being "surprised" by literal free money causing inflation). Bloggers will want to shill their premium service or some other niche thing, I could go on. This doesn't mean none of these are useful sources, it just means you have to think about what they will and will not say.
