Not great for young people either really. The same job I have in Chicago (sales engineer) paid roughly half of what I make here, and rent is comparable if not higher in Tampa. Even with much higher taxes factored in I am considerably better off here. Obviously I like the Politics better in Florida but I'm not risking my financial wellbeing on that.

My mom is in Raleigh now (also got a much better job) and even with comparable housing prices and higher income tax NC is cheaper for her too. Florida is just way too far off the rocker to consider moving back to until housing and insurance gets under control.
