If you haven't started a physical collection 4k uhd is the perfect starting point. twice the resolution of blurays and its future proof as very few films can be rescanned at higher resolutions. so even if 8k discs become available most of it will be digitally upscaled rather than sourced from the actual film strips. the difference in quality from 4k to 8k will be very negligible for most films.

basically 4k uhd is the peak for resolution and quality for 90% of films. There may be a time when color technology is even better than the current hdr standard so new discs will be released, but now is for sure the best time to start a 4k collection. i feel bad for old folks with a thousand dvds
