You would be surprised at how irrational politicians can be in current year.
I used to be more confident saying "that will never happen" about some things, like your post, but now I have to accept that there is always a chance of the deeply absurd. Politicians love finding ways to be irrational about money. Especially for the "save the world" agenda item of the present, which is pretending that certain types of energy use and material consumption are super bad and others are super good (ex. oil+coal bad, solar panels+batteries good).
I don't think Norway is suddenly going to cap their wells because of Thornberg, but if they slowed their pumping as a signal of concession I wouldn't be surprised.
