Personally this is how I see it playing out. Prices have been skyrocketing being institutional investors are getting in and there is a liquidity problem with all the unconfirmed transactions and no one wanting to sell on exchanges, once futures open on the 10th they short it and dump everything they accumulated in the past couple months, price drops and everyone starts trying to get out, but the network is completely congested, and everyone else is stuck either trying to sell their BTC in a fire sale with everyone else or holding it as it drops like a rock. Just look at the market cap, mid July was 30b, now it just passed 300b, literally 10x in 6 months, a 270 billion dollar increase, while transaction volume have barely increased at all.

Last two times the network was this congested were early summer, which resulted in the altcoin bubble and BTC losing a ton of market dominance, and more recently in November when BCH tried to flip.
