IMO once we get away from the eternal war for profit scheme we'll see thorium take off. Its the only reaction method that can be scaled down to local power substation size levels. Some big corps. have had the idea for town sized sealed 'cold' fusion reactors for decades.

TDLR: I live in a state which has a nuke plant that can power almost half the state, yet the juice only goes two places. a military base for things that get wet and a municipal airport.
