Your 2001 point is close to what I was thinking, but mine would be several bars later. The thing is 2001 had the 9/11 catalyst so our chart will look a little different if we don't get one of those. However, I think your 2008 point corresponds to our start of April, with the two diverging when our June dump didn't turn into a total crash.

Have you looked at the 1981-1982 bear charts? Their "you are here" point could be in early '82.

1935-1938 was already very deep in the depression and I'd say that represents what could happen if politicians forcibly stop Powell and try to deal with this inflation crisis by simply printing loads of money and not solving problems, causing that big blue line rally in the first half of the chart, and then collapse and world war later on.
