Sure let’s see a Republican victory/Santa rally. I’m sure the market can do it when we’re facing another 75 bps hike in December when Powell will “consider” only increasing rates 50 bps in January. I can definitely see the market rallying on a 6%+ terminal rate

That's because he's a Bernanke protege. What we needed all along was a picrelated protege.

Tell that to Paul Volcker:

>inflation was out of control for years
>Volcker came along and said enough is enough
>jacked rates up so high that unemployment went to 10%
>devastated blue collar workers at the time and gave no fucks about it

Why do you think Powell keeps talking about the inflation of the 70s and 80s? He’s trying to avoid inflation lasting for a decade like it did back then, but he can’t come out and say “I’m trying to get a bunch of people fired and destroy their garbage companies”. But that’s how you kill inflation if supply can’t be fixed

Yes so that means we’re giga fucked as Yellen tries to explain we’re not in a recession as she changes the definition and Biden’s bedridden with COVID. Buckle up for 2008 part two electric boogaloo, this time the Fed’s going to cause the massive recession when Powell channels his inner Volcker

>Mumus praying that the Fed will pivot

I don’t know what they’re smoking, because the Fed is continuing their breakneck speed of jacking rates up until inflation is at 2% again. Even if unemployment starts ticking up, they’ll just continue at 25 and 50 bps hikes

>inflation will never be at 2% again anon

Want to find out mumus? Powell won’t stop until unemployment goes past 10%, or until inflation is brought back down. Volcker didn’t hesitate at a 10% unemployment rate, I can’t see Powell hesitating until maybe we hit 12-15%

We’ll have a housing correction at the very least if we’re on our way to 10% unemployment. Your fixed mortgage rate doesn’t mean shit if you can’t make your payments anymore

Zoomers and Millennials are shitting their pants because they don’t remember the dot com bubble recession and the Financial Crisis was the second worst recession in history. So when most Zoomers and Millennials only remember 2008, they start to panic. Boomers and Gen X are freaking out because they remember unemployment went to 10% the last time the Fed had to defeat inflation and the markets tanked

Eh I wouldn’t go that bad. At its worst, Volcker’s recession caused 10% unemployment. Obviously 1/10 people losing their jobs is really fucking bad, but there’s more people who will keep them than just doctors

I have very basic advice for you anon, don’t fight the Fed. The Fed is either raising the rate 50 or 75 bps on Wednesday, and near guaranteed raising the rate 75 bps in July. The markets are gonna freak the fuck out regardless of what’s happening because they flee to bonds when the Fed does that. Until the Fed signals they’re becoming more dovish, short the shit out of everything but energy
