I wish there was a good real estate mafia game. Where you could try and take over a city and you could either do it benevolently or by breaking lots of legs.
I'm surprised no-one has said EVE Online, that's basically "economic spreadsheets - the game".

They would definitely rather eat a decades worth of taxes and maintenance than let some mouth breathing neet stay there. I know this because I've watched a big commercial firm sit on a brand new warehouse without selling or renting it since 2006 that is right around the corner from me. There is a new medical center going up next to it right now. Still hasn't sold, they still won't lower the price.

Serious question, if I bought undeveloped land with super low taxes, and it has a lake in it, is there anything stopping me from putting a houseboat on it and avoiding increasing the property taxes? I want to minimize the money the government steals from me every year.

Holy shit I'm glad I'm not the only one who realizes this. More than a hundred years of funny money financial repression-backed pseudo-government have brought us to into a Cronenberg-tier bizzarro world. Bring on the fucking hard reset, this shit is just too embarrassing to cope with at this point.
