Hobbies are an entirely separate issue. Don't confuse the two. You do hobbies for fun. You do work yourself to save money when the opportunity cost of time lost is less than the cost of the work. The two are not in any way similar.

A smart man is one who can accurately weigh the value of his time, and who can choose to 'waste' his time despite knowing exactly what it costs him. Poor people very frequently lack this ability, and as such they spend inordinate amounts of time trying to cobble together cheap solutions that frequently cost them more money and far more time in the long run.

It's not worth my time to do anything beyond the most basic of basic maintenance on my car. I don't enjoy it, and I'm not a master at that craft. I can't see many future problems unless they are pointed out to me. I don't know how to, and don't have the equipment to solve complex car problems on my own. I accept that. I have plenty of hobby interests that are not efficient uses of my time. I accept that as well. I enjoy doing them. That's why I do them.

If you enjoy wrench slinging, power to you. I don't enjoy it, and there is no economic reason for me to bother learning the finer details. If you choose to do it despite not being interested in it as a hobby, you either make less than I do and thus aren't losing as much losing a weekend doing personal projects, or you are thinking like a poor person and would be far better off behaving differently.

>I wouldn't put my name on a car lease/loan for my own mother so never mind a fucking roommate I barely fucking know.

Another sidenote: The people you can safely lend money to or cosign loans with are the people who don't need you to. If someone has a high credit rating, and a good income, they can get a loan for practically anything. If they have shit credit, chances are they are going to leave you on the hook sooner or later.

I'd have zero problem throwing 50,000 at my mother. It would be paid back within a year, as soon as she could safely afford to do so. She has a credit score that sits above 830 at all times. She could walk into her credit union and ask for a 250,000 personal loan. She'd walk out in under 30 minutes with a cashiers check for the full amount, and it would only take that long because she's reads the paperwork meticulously and makes notes.

My father? I wouldn't give him my pocket lint. He nearly made us homeless when I was a child because of his laziness and poor financial decisions. If I lent him money, it would become a 'gift' because he'd never ever pay me back. The last two times I spoke to him were a courtroom, and a threatening phone call he made after I garnished his wages.

Specialized 'tools' for random nonsensical purposes.

>A drill attachment that's a vegetable peeler.
>A pneumatic whisk.
>A garden hose attachment for your mower so you can mow, bag, and water/fertilize while riding and drinking beer.
>A vibrator that plugs onto a ratchet so you can tighten your girlfriend.

I've read a lot of interesting speculation on why this is the case.

Most of it boils down to the following. Women value security far more than men, so they are far more risk averse. Men are much more aggressive in their attempts to get higher wages or just generally do something. Men are willing to quit their jobs to go elsewhere, or create a startup, all at the drop of a hat. They aren't tied down as easily, and don't value community as much.

I won't comment on whether or not these are biological or social differences. I'm not qualified to know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit of both.

There's also some weird shit about intelligence. Average intelligence is functionally indistinguishable between genders, but men apparently have a wider deviation. In other words your average guy is just as average as your average woman. There are fewer average men, and more genuinely stupid, and more positively brilliant men. Now take this and compound with that willingness to take large risks. That lands some of the men the top positions. It also contributes to their higher homeless rates. Well that and the fact that the low income services for women are provably better in many locations.

Anyone else here want to make money not to obtain status or power but purely for living the lifestyle they want and being away from poor people and criminals i.e. living in an upper-class area with low crime.

Essentially, anyone here just want to live in peace from it all and just enjoy themselves?

My dream is to get a modern apartment in an area with non-existant crime and just buy things that will come in handy like the latest tech and eat well and that's it, nothing else.
