Yes, after a long enough time or emp attack it will fail. It is inevitable. But I've had 4 safes for 20 years and the locks have never failed and one safe is sitting in the garage surrounded by tons of corrosive shit that is causing rusting everywhere and the elock is working fine. So far none of my friends have had electronic lock issues. Of course if you can find or afford a mechanical lock that is obviously superior but requiring that feature creates a financial or time burden for new buyers that isn't helpful. I suspect estate sales might provide the best opportunity for cheap mechanical lock safes.
