btw just in case someone didn't spot it on his own, the only successful "double spends" are when the original have less than 1 satoshi/byte as fee. which makes the transaction not accepted by most miners, but it's still propagated in case someone wants to include it in a block. so of course the "double spend" transaction is included in the block when it has the the minimum acceptable fee

any merchant accepting 0-conf need to check that the fee of the transaction isn't too low. but that's just how 0-conf works.

i would have preferred ETH to not exist and for BTC to have that technology and developers, yes. hacks are unfortunate but they get patched and crypto is still not even 10 years old. these things are bound to happen and we learn every time from it.
