Greetings /biz/raelites, I'm a poor late starter who just gained his first year of work experience. I'm 23 and I work at a grocery store(Stocker but have plenty of customer service and cashier experience) at 8.05 an hour for up to 30 hours a week(Thanks obama care). My reputation at my store and to a lesser extent our whole district, is good to decent and I feel my resume right now is in much better order than it was a year ago. I'm looking at higher paying jobs that I can feasibly acquire, that will boost my income significantly even at the cost of labor intensity and heavy hours.
My plan is to continue living frugally and get a job that will pay much better than just barely $200 a week, I'll be able to properly afford living independently and later on I can pay my way through school. Right now I'm looking at retail merchandising(Think coke guys who stock coke product at walmart instead of walmart employees).


I'm hearing it's a "10"(12+ hour according to the many workers I've talked to) a day job with many companies being extra greedy and not paying hourly ($110 a day no matter how late you finish). There is one company an hour away from my place that'll pay 11 and will pay all the overtime they can, I'm hearing 75+ hours sometimes, and im hearing during season you work sometimes 6 days a week at 13+ hours a day. Meaning my checks should much larger at the expensive of having no life, which I already lack.
My question to you guys is, is this the best i can do? I likely won't get the $11 job(They might not be hiring right now), so I'll end up being payed less with the daily rate. What are my other options for boosting my income reliably? I hear construction may pay well but I have some sensitive hearing issues and I'm more partial to the inside work of hauling stock than outside work(I'm at Florida). That said, if need be I'd do it.
