Real estate is actually undervalued and there are many empty houses and properties across the US. The rent is whats actually bloated because too few people who can afford to buy houses are actually buying houses, despite the fact that mortgages are cheaper than rental prices in most areas. We have a real problem with 30 somethings doing the 'young adult living in the big city' meme instead of moving on and becoming homeowners.
