>Everyone invests in low cost index funds, usually through Vanguard
>Next major market crash (think 2008) happens
>It turns out Vanguard was nothing more than a ponzi scheme to attract "smart" investors with a concept that sounds smart and realistic
>Jack Bogle becomes the new Bernie Madoff
>Everyone who invested in Vanguard gets screwed over
>Actively managed mutual funds and passive funds with "higher" expense ratios all survive

So I bought into ethereum back when it was $15 a piece and again when it was $70. So far my $400 investment has been turned into $4100 thanks primarily to Ethereum and Golem. Now that I have an ok amount of money that I don't care about, is it enough to do actual stock trading? I was looking into ETF's as a stable option to start out, but I know nothing about this market. Any advice for an anon that isn't retarded and wants to escape this cryptobubble? Pic related, their ETF's were recommended to me be a friend in college.

Assuming I max out my Roth (no 401k company match to consider either), can I start an investment account with vanguard?

I would likely continue the same strategy of buying and holding ETFs, but how would the tax implications be different from my Roth account?

I know you guys only really care about crypto but can we have a discussion about "old school" investing? Specifically about what platforms/services are best for someone who's trying to get his feet wet.
I just want my money doing more than sitting in a bank depreciating.

What investment platforms or services do you use for your cash?
What do you like about them?

Hey anon,

I have maxed my Roth IRA contribution for 2017 and am looking to open a brokerage account through Vanguard. I am going to buy and hold for a least 20 years. What ETF do you like VTI or VOO? They both perform similarly and have comparable risk. Do I invest in both? Thanks!

Can someone explain how this works?

I've had money wasting away in the form of gold for years and it doesnt look like the trend is going to be reversing any time soon, so I'd like to try something else.

How do you choose an ETF? What should you be considering? What kinds of returns can you expect? Can you take any amount of the money out at any time without penalty?

Are Vanguard index funds a meme? Are index funds in general a meme?

My portfolio currently consists solely of a 401k. I put in 2% of my salary (company doesn't match).
What's the next thing I should be looking at to put my money in that I don't have to actively manage for growth, or at least protection against inflation? Vanguard mutual funds?

How much of a meme is the whole "Just put your money into vanguard mutual funds, it's really hard to beat the market" boglehead stuff? I'm about to inherit some money.
